The Tsurushi Hina (normally called "Tsurushi-bina") is a collection of little hand-made fabric dolls and ornaments that mothers and grandmothers in Japan make as a prayer for the health and well-being of their daughters and granddaughters. It is a labour of love. It is usually displayed in Japan on Girls' Day, March third. This item contains five strings that include the following hand-made items: cranes, shippou mari (7-treasure balls), children, bunny, peach, daikon radish, plum, carp, turtle, chilli peppers, medicine bag (the triangular ones at the bottom), drawstring bags, pea pod. Each of the items symbolize something for the health and good fortune of the daughters. For example, cranes symbolize "long life", bunny for "good career", chilli peppers for "warding off evil", medicine bag for "health", fruit & vegetables for "health and nutrition."
